Iran discloses volume of horticultural production

Iran produced 23 million tons of products in orchards in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020), Minister of Agriculture Jihad Kazem Khavazi said in a speech at the Iranian Parliament, Trend reports citing Iranian Parliament’s official website.

According to the minister, 5.4 million tons of citrus fruits, 3.2 million tons of grapes, 1.2 million tons of dates and 1.6 million tons of pomegranates were produced.

The minister added that 4,500 hectares of horticultural land to be added to Iran's greenhouse area in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020), and Iran's greenhouse area will increase from 18,800 hectares to 23,030 hectares.

Khavazi noted that there are about 67 million small cattle and 8.4 million cattle in Iran. In total, 15.4 million tons of meat is produced in the livestock and poultry sector.

"Iran's red meat production is currently 860,000 tons a year, and it is planned to increase it to 900,000 tons," he said.

Khavazi said that Iran produces 112,000 tons of honey a year.

"Iran currently has 7,200 facilities to breed fish and fishery products. The shrimp are grown at about 70 facilities,” he added.

According to the minister, last year, Iran produced 1.3 million tons of fish and fishery products. At the same time, 755,000 tons of fish were caught.

Khavazi stressed that the volume of caviar produced at facilities in Iran last year was 10,700 tons.
