The government plans to launch more dams and water treatment plants in the country by 2021, said Iranian President.
"Construction of 43 dams has been completed since 2013 and it is planned to build 58 dams by 2021," said Hassan Rouhani during the inauguration of water projects in Fars and Kermanshah provinces on July 2, Trend reports citing IRNA.
"The number of water treatment plants has increased from 27 in early Islamic Revolution era in 1979 to 156, and 37 of them were inaugurated by the current government," the head of state said.
"With commissioning a new sewage treatment plant in Fars Province today, their total number reached 242, and more sewage treatment plant will be inaugurated by the end of current government's term in 2021," the president added.
"During the past five years, one reservoir dam was launched every two months, one sewage treatment plant - once a month, and one water treatment plant - every 50 days," he added. "The drinking water in cities is 99.9 percent clean, while 82 percent of villages have access to clean water."
"The work on the construction of water pipelines and channels and drainage on 18,000 hectares of Iran's western lands is ongoing; so far more, work on 10,000 hectares has been completed and the project will be commissioned in the current Iranian year [started March 20, 2020]," Rouhani said.
