By Nargiz Sadikhova - Trend:

Lithuanian businessmen are interested in investing in Kazakhstan, Lithuania’s Ministry of Transport and Communications told Trend.

The ministry official said that currently the best-developed branch of transport cooperation between Kazakhstan and Lithuania can be considered the freight transport by rail.

“The volume of transit cargo and cargo from Kazakhstan remains stable and has been growing slightly for several years. The recently launched transportation of postal items by rail from China through the territory of Kazakhstan has proved to be a very promising project. Roads transport also transports postal parcels from China and Kazakhstan to Lithuania. This mode of transport experienced a certain decline during the COVID-19 pandemic,” the ministry representative said.

However, the representative noted, quarantine measures imposed due to COVID-19 directly affected the work of carriers.

“Unfortunately, businessmen have also faced increased bureaucratic obstacles. But through the joint efforts of both countries, road freight transport took place. This mode of transport can be considered as the well-developed area of cooperation between the two countries, also,” the official said.

The official also said that investment in Kazakhstan’s transport sector is another important area of cooperation.

“We already have Lithuanian road transport companies operating and expanding their activities successfully in Kazakhstan. Kazakh businessmen are also invited to invest in Lithuania's free economic zones, Klaipeda port and other logistics facilities,” the ministry official said.

In total, the official said Lithuanian investments in Kazakhstan exceed 3 million euro, which clearly shows that the opportunities are far from being exploited.

“As Kazakhstan improves its investment climate and expands its transport and logistics infrastructure, Lithuanian businessmen are increasingly interested in investing in this country,” the representative concluded.
