Uzbekistan may start exports to Arkansas state of US

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 13

Uzbekistan is establishing cooperation with the government of Arkansas state of US, Trend reports with reference to Uzbekistan National News Agency.

Ambassador of Uzbekistan to the US Javlon Vakhabov met with Michael Preston, executive director of the Arkansas Economic Development Commission (AEDC) and Secretary of Commerce

“The main purpose of the meeting was to establish direct contacts with the government of Arkansas, leading state-owned companies, attract US entrepreneurs to the Uzbek market, study the best practices of the region in higher and secondary vocational education,” the message said.

During the meeting a detailed presentation was made on reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan, economic potential of the country, priority directions of ensuring stable economic growth, reducing the role of the state in this, attraction of direct foreign investments.

Special attention was paid to the issues of expanding and establishing cooperation between Uzbekistan and Arkansas state in training personnel for agriculture, increasing the export potential of the country through the sale of local products through the networks of Walmart and Dillardʼs companies.

A representative of Arkansas administration expressed willingness to boost cooperation between the state and Uzbekistan and informed of willingness to fill the agenda of bilateral relations.

At the end of the meeting, the sides agreed to discuss prospects of exporting dried fruits and textile products to the US, as well as issues on establishing direct contacts between local universities and the University of Arkansas.
