BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 24

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Italian companies have invested in Georgia mainly in the agricultural and renewable energy (small hydropower generation plants) sectors, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Italy to Georgia Enrico Valvo told Trend.

According to him, overall investment in the two sectors largely exceeds 70 million euros.

"Ongoing projects, implemented by two countries, relate mainly to infrastructural work and tourism sector. Italian companies are active in developing the Georgian highway system (with specific reference to project design and direction of work, especially on the East-West corridor) and in urban planning/re-qualification of tourim-related areas," Enrico Valvo said.

The ambassador said those are indeed sectors where Italian companies have a wide national and international experience.

Diplomatic relations between the Georgia and the Italian Republic were established on 11 May, 1992. In 1994, the Embassy of Georgia was opened in Italy.

Several agreements have been concluded between Georgia and Italy, which include the cooperation in the fields of defense, economy, transport, culture, education etc. Cooperation within the international organizations is very dynamic.

Since 2004, Georgian-Italian economic and business fora have been held periodically. The priority spheres include construction, infrastructure, agricultural and tourism fields.
