Purchase of wheat continues in Iran's Lorestan Province

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 16

More than 276,000 tons of wheat has been purchased in the Lorestan Province (western Iran) since the beginning of the wheat harvesting season in Iran on April 4 to August 16, director of Government Trading Corporation (GTC) of Iran’s branch in Lorestan Province Hojjat Biranvand said, Trend reports citing the corporation’s website.

Biranvand noted that to date, the value of wheat purchased from farmers in the province has exceeded 6.94 trillion rials.

The director added that 5.44 trillion rials (about $129 million) has been paid to wheat farmers, so far.

"In addition, 2,100 tons of rapeseed has been purchased from farmers in the Lorestan Province," he said.

The director stressed that the value of rapeseed purchased from farmers in the province was more than 94 billion rials (about $2.23 million).

The price of ordinary wheat to be purchased from farmers in the current planting year is set at 25,000 rials (about 59 cents), and of durum wheat - at 26,000 rials (about 61 cents) per kilogram in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020). The price of rapeseed is set at 46,600 rials (about $1.1) per kilogram.
