Iran imported more than 13.8 million tons of products worth $13.7 billion during the first five months of the current Iranian year (March 20-August 21, 2020), director general of Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), Mehdi Mirashrafi said, Trend reports citing IRICA.
The director general stressed that 85 percent of imported products were essential products, raw materials and production equipment. Thus, of the imported products, 9.7 million tons amounted essential products.
He added that Iran imported 1.33 million tons of products worth $3.55 billion from China in 5 months, and China accounted for 25.9 percent of Iran's total product imports.
Mirashrafi said that Iran imported 1.7 million tons of products worth $3.18 billion from United Arab Emirates during the reporting period. The share of the UAE in Iran’s total imports was 23 percent.
“Iran imported 2 million tons of products worth $1.47 billion from Turkey over five months. Turkey accounted for 10.7 percent of Iran's total products imports, he said.
The director general noted that Iran imported 1.1 million tons of products worth $941 million from India during the same period and India's share in total imports of Iran was 6.8 percent.
"Over the 5 months Iran imported 548,000 tons of products worth $661 million from Germany. The share of Germany in Iran’s total products imports amounted 4.8 percent," he said.
Iran's foreign trade turnover totaled more than 53 million tons worth $24.6 billion during the first five months of the current Iranian year.
