Volume of rapeseed purchased in Iran's Khuzestan Province increases

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 16

A total of 67,500 tons of rapeseed has been purchased from farmers in the Khuzestan Province (southwestern Iran) from the beginning of the current harvesting season (April 4) to September 16, said Omid Jahan Nejadian, Director General of Government Trading Corporation (GTC) of Iran’s branch in Khuzestan Province, Trend reports citing the corporation’s website.

According to Nejadian, this is an increase of 48 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year.

The director general added that the money for the purchased rapeseed was paid to the farmers fully, and rapeseed was sent to factories in other provinces for processing.

“In addition, 1.2 million tons of wheat has been purchased from farmers in Khuzestan Province. In this regard, the Khuzestan Province ranks first in Iran,” he noted.

The price of ordinary wheat to be purchased from farmers in the current planting year is set at 25,000 rials (about 59 cents), and of durum wheat - at 26,000 rials (about 61 cents) per kilogram in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020). The price of rapeseed is set at 46,600 rials (about $1.1) per kilogram.

A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice and other products are purchased from farmers by a state company under a guarantee in Iran.
