By Jeila Aliyeva - Trend:

Turkmen-Uzbek cooperation is developing in a wide range of areas, both in a bilateral format and through international structures, Trend reports with reference to Turkmenistan’s State News Agency.

This was stated during a telephone conversation between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The international cooperation is evidenced by the mutual support of the two countries for international initiatives and proposals put forward within the framework of reputable organizations, the report says.

In this context, the fruitfulness of interstate trade and economic relations was noted. A clear example of this is the first meeting of the Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan business council.

The activities of this council are designed to promote the intensification of bilateral business contacts, increase the volume of mutual trade, and stimulate investment activity.

Also, the countries are expanding and strengthening cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian field.

Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are working effectively to minimize the negative impact of the pandemic on the interstate trade and economic partnership.

As earlier the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan told Trend, several events and projects are planned for the next few years in the field of rail and road cargo transportation between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

The new projects will serve to further enhance bilateral cooperation, added earlier the Uzbek MFA.

"It is planned to expand cooperation by using the ports of the Turkmen coast of the Caspian Sea to access European and Middle Eastern markets, the Black and Mediterranean Seas, including within the framework of the promising Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-the Caspian Sea-the South Caucasus transport corridor," added the MFA.
