Iran, Syria are expected to barter trade

TEHRAN, Iran, Oct.20

Trend:

The Central Bank of Iran has agreed on the barter trade between Tehran and Damascus, while Iran is participating in reconstruction of infrastructure in Syria, said the VP of Iran-Syria Joint Chamber of Commerce Ali Asghar Zebardast, Trend reports via ILNA.

"The money transfer could be done easily, if basic materials and equipment could be bartered. The issue has been brought up with Iran Trade Promotion Organization, and there is an agreement with the Central Bank of Iran," said Zebardast.

"Iran seeks to export goods to Syria and it is possible that major part of barter goods would be basic materials and machineries that are needed by companies," he said.

"Syria is important for us since it is in reconstruction phase and there is good possibility for trade between the two countries," Zebardast said.

"Iran's participation in reconstruction of Syria is partly ongoing by Khatam al-Anbiya Construction Headquarters, while big companies are present there as well," he said.

"Iran's Chamber of Commerce has purchased a building as a trade center in Syria, where part of it is dedicated to public companies and provinces to have close trade with Syrian businessmen," he said.

Iran's trade center is located in Damascus and is a twelve-story building. The first two floors are dedicated for exhibition and other floors would be for various services including marketing, transportation, legal consultation, banking services and insurance.
