Volume of investments from Japan to Georgia down

As for the first and second quarters of the current year, the volume of investments from Japan in 2020 became negative, mainly due to the outflow of investments in the trade sector, Trend reports via the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

In total, the volume of investments in the first and second quarters of 2020 amounted to $259,100. According to the sectors, the investment is as follows:

• Hotels and restaurants - $1,900;
• Real estate - $194,800;
• Trade - $12.5 million;
• Other sectors - $12.1 million.

According to Geostat, foreign direct investment of $68.3 million has flowed from Japan to Georgia in the last 5 years. The volume of FDI in different sectors was different over the years.

In 2016 - $5.8 million:

• Trade - $5.6 million;
• Other sectors - $216,100.

In 2017 - $18.3 million, an increase over the previous year - 214.8 percent

• Real estate - $264,600;
• Trade - $18.3 million;
• Other sectors - $222,900;

In 2018 - $4.8 million, a decrease of 73.6 percent compared to the previous year:

• Real estate - $205,300;
• Trade - $4.6 million;
• Other sectors - $21,900.

In 2019 - $39.5 million, an increase of 716.3 percent compared to the previous year:

• Hotels and restaurants - $4,500;
• Real estate - $406,700;
• Trade - $39.2 million;
• Other sectors - $99,000.
