Iran to impose tax on auto sale

TEHRAN, Iran, Nov.4

Trend:

Imposing a tax on auto sale would create transparency in the market and urge to purchase vehicles as an investment, said a member of parliament's industry and mine commission.

"One of the main issues is that auto has turned to an investment that has caused a price gap and increased demand for non-real consumers," said Rouhollah Izadkhah, Trend reports citing ILNA.

"Meanwhile the fixed prices that are not considering real in the auto industry would cause losses to automakers and the production capacity would decline while the price gap in the market grows," he said.

He went on to say that the short term solution to prevent abusers in the market is to impose sales tax to create transparency in auto distribution and real prices,.

"Industrial policies should be implemented in the long term that would increase supply and reduce prices. The cost of auto parts in auto production is 80 percent therefore finished costs in auto production should also be reduced," he added.

According to Izadkhah, the commission seeks to implement a plan that would create transparency in auto supply and sales, therefore, we seek to offer this commodity at the mercantile exchange another plan is the tax on new vehicles and various transactions.

"Auto import is certainly not the first solution and the auto industry in our country is a strategic industry that develops 40 branches and can improve other industries by an increase of production," he noted.

At last, he added that auto production under license of the foreign brand should be eliminated since foreign companies have left joint projects before due to sanctions, instead, Iran should move toward the joint platform and joint research with countries that have the technology to improve domestic capacity.
