Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan eye to increase annual bilateral trade

Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan aim to bring the volume of annual bilateral trade to $1 billion in the coming years, Trend reports referring to the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade.

The Prime Minister, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Ruslan Kazakbayev discussed the implementation of the previously reached agreements, the prospects for expanding the Uzbek-Kyrgyz partnership in the field of trade, investment, industrial cooperation, transport, as well as interaction in the field of education, health and culture.

The parties noted the significant potential for multiple increases in trade, economic and investment indicators between the two countries, in connection with which the parties reached an agreement to accelerate the development and approval of the road map to expand and deepen cooperation between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan in the field of industrial cooperation and its practical implementation.

An agreement was reached to intensify the work of the Intergovernmental Commission and the activities of the Council of Heads of Administrations of the border regions of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.

The parties noted the prospects for further development of cooperation in the field of transport and logistics. It was agreed to create a special working group as part of the relevant ministries and departments of the two countries.

The working group will focus on increasing the volume of freight traffic and increasing the efficiency of using regional transport corridors, as well as the study of topical issues in the transport sector, including the creation of joint logistics centers and the implementation of joint projects to modernize the road and rail infrastructure
