As of October 30, 2020, over 17,000 policies have been issued under the Georgian agricultural insurance program, 18,000 hectares of land have been insured, which is 31 percent more than in the same period last year, Trend reports via the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture.

The value of the insured crop exceeds 160 million lari ($48.03 million).

According to the Minister of Environment and Agriculture Levan Davitashvili, agro insurance is one of the most successful programs launched by the Georgian government, which is developed through private insurance companies and significantly reduces the risks of farmers.

"Co-financed areas will be increased. Therefore we will finance more than 82,000 hectares of agricultural crops in Georgia, the insurance amount of which should exceed 600 million lari ($186.4 million), for which more than 40 million lari ($12.4 million) is allocated in the budget," the minister said.

According to him, more than 114,000 policies have been issued since the beginning of the "Agroinsurance" program in 2014. The insured area exceeds 100,000 hectares.
