Iran and Italy trade significantly down

TEHRAN, Iran, Nov.10

Trend:

The trade between Iran and Iraly before the COVID-19 outbreak was around $700 million, which mostly relied on the small and medium sized companies, said the head of Iran and Italy Chamber of Commerce Ahmad Pourfallah, Trend reports citing ILNA.

"Iran should have more trade with global companies," he said, adding that sanctions and Iran's failure to join the FATF has affected the decline of trade.

"Lack of SWIFT connection between Iran and other countries has created many problems," he said.

Pourfallah said that Iran's trade with Italy hasn't stopped, and is going on rather slowly.

"Iran's blocked money in Italy is around $5 billion, which is for the last oil cargo purchased. The figure is far less than Iran's blocked assets in Iraq, China but it has not been possible to transfer the money from Italy," he said.

"Italy has been one of Iran's top trade partners and the trade volume between the two countries was €1.8 billion a decade ago," he said.
