BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 16

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

The name of a large copper mine in Iran will be declared at the beginning of next Iranian year (March 21, 2021) in order to increase copper reserves, Managing Director of the National Iranian Copper Industries Company (NICICO), Ardashir Sad Mohammadi said, Trend reports referring to the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO).

Sad Mohammadi said that Iran's copper reserves are more than 7 billion tons at present.

“In addition, copper reserves will be increased in Iran's Midok and Sungun mines,” he added.

The director noted that large-scale exploration operations are currently being carried out in Iran's Yazd, Isfahan, South Khorasan, and Sistan and Baluchestan provinces.

According to him, three copper concentrate plants will be launched in Iran next Iranian year. Thus, 400,000 tons will be added to Iran's copper concentrate production.

Sad Mohammadi emphasized that it is envisaged to produce 265,000 tons of cathode copper in Iran in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2020, to March 21, 2021). However, it is hoped that this figure will reach 280,000 tons. Iran produced 140,000 tons of cathode copper during the first 6 months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through September 21, 2020).

"The NICICO has development plans worth about 2.5 billion euros. A number of equipment and spare parts are currently being provided on these plans,” he noted.
