Georgian textile export sales decline

BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 17

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Salome Sharadze, manager of garment company Georgian Textile said, that the company has a 40 percent decrease in sales on the sole export market – Turkey, Trend reports via Georgian media.

As Sharadze explained, amid the pandemic, the company completely reorganized the production line and started sewing face masks.

"Today our company continues to work, but not with the same load. However, we try to work smoothly. We have a 40 percent decrease in the Turkish market, they canceled our orders and reduced the quantities. When we used to produce 250,000-300,000 pieces, now we sew up to 200,000 pieces. We had planned to increase production volumes by 2020, as well as a 15-20 percent increase in sales, but we are temporarily suspended. We also wanted to export our products to the European market, but because the border is closed, it hurts us," Sharadze said.

As she noted, when the pandemic passes, there will be a great demand for textiles and there will be an increase in the rates.
