Iran expands mobile phone imports

The number of mobile phones imported to Iran increased by 37 percent during the first eight months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through November 20, 2020), compared to the same period last Iranian year, Spokesman for the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Rouhollah Latifi said, Trend reports citing IRICA.

According to Latifi, Iran imported 7.8 million mobile phones worth about $1.12 billion within the reporting period.

Latifi added that while In the same period last year, Iran imported 5.66 million mobile phones worth $647 million.

“The mobile phone is the second most imported products to Iran after corn,” he said.

The spokesman noted that Iran imported 11.2 million mobile phones worth $1.44 billion in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019, to March 20, 2020).

According to the statistics of IRICA, Iran exported 75 million tons of goods worth $21.5 billion during the first eight months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through November 20, 2020). Iran's exports decreased by 19 percent in terms of value and 14 percent in terms of volume compared to the same period last Iranian year.

In addition, Iran imported 21.8 million tons of goods worth $23.1 billion within 8 months of the current Iranian year.

Iran's imports decreased by 18 percent in terms of value and 1 percent in terms of volume compared to the same period last Iranian year.
