OECD hopes Turkmenistan to join work on trade facilitation, connectivity in Central Asia

BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 15

By Jeila Aliyeva - Trend:

Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) hopes that Turkmenistan will jointly work on trade facilitation, connectivity in Central Asia, OECD told Trend.

“We are discussing further work on trade facilitation and connectivity in Central Asia with OECD members and partners in the region and we would very much hope for Turkmenistan to join that workstream as and when it goes forward,” clarified OECD.

Also, OECD noted that COVID-19 had very little affection for cooperation with Turkmenistan.

“We have not been able to travel to the country since the first months of the year, but we have had frequent contact via videoconference and Turkmen colleagues have participated in all of our major regional webinars, often at ministerial level,” noted OECD.

The message added that OECD has likewise participated in conferences and events organized by the government this year, most recently on state regulation of foreign economic activity.

Also, OECD said that they recently conducted with Turkmenistan the first country-level project.

“Turkmenistan is one of five countries participating in an EU-financed project on improving the legal environment for business in Central Asia. The project involves both analytical work and capacity-building activities,” said the message.

Overall, OECD said, that they hope the current project will lead to more.
