The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will support the development of guidelines and draft amendments and additions to the national regulations for road maintenance, road design, and asset management with associated training in Kazakhstan, the ADB told Trend.

The support measures will be taken within the Technical Assistance (TA) for Institutional Support of National Quality Center of Road Assets in the amount of $1 million funded by the Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction approved on a grant basis.

The ADB said TA is provided at the request of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development (MIID).

The MIID will serve as TA’s Executing Agency while the Committee of Roads will be Implementing Agency. It is aimed at strengthening the overall capacity of the recently established National Quality Center for Road Assets, the ADB noted.

The ADB emphasized that TA’s planned activities were closely coordinated with government agencies, including the Ministry of National Economy of Kazakhstan.

The TA’s planned activities also include the development of manuals and public outreach materials to enhance the driving culture and road quality management; competency framework for professional and technical staff working in the road transport subsector.

ADB is committed to achieving a prosperous, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable Asia and the Pacific while sustaining its efforts to eradicate extreme poverty. Established in 1966, it is owned by 68 members—49 from the region.
