Russia, Turkmenistan increase mutual trade of agricultural products – Ministry

Russia and Turkmenistan increased mutual trade in agricultural products by 83.7, the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia told Trend.

"As of December 27, 2020, mutual trade in agricultural products and food between Russia and Turkmenistan increased by 83.7 percent compared to the same period last year and amounted to $164.6 million," the report said.

The ministry also named the main agricultural products sold both for export and import between the countries.

"The key positions in the structure of Russian exports to Turkmenistan were sunflower oil ($35.1 million), sugar ($20.9 million), fresh potatoes ($10.8 million), margarine ($10.5 million) in 2020," the report said.

At the same time, the main goods that were supplied from Turkmenistan to Russia were fresh tomatoes ($22.6 million), wool ($1.3 million) and cotton fiber waste ($0.7 million), added the message.

As earlier the Russian Ministry of Agriculture told Trend, the trade turnover increased almost 2 times in 1H2020, compared to the same period in 2019 and amounted to $87 million.

As reported, Turkmenistan is assessing the possibility of harvesting new Russian winter wheat varieties in Research and Production Testing Center in Gubadag district of Dashoguz region.

Among them is Russia’s 'Alekseevich' medium-ripened wheat variety, as well as such varieties as Bezostaya-100, Kalym, Moskovskaya-56 and Bagrat.
