The founder of the Georgian Olive company Georgi Svanidze associates the increase in the olive harvest in 2020 with favorable weather conditions, Trend reports via EastFruit portal.
“The weather has been very good for olives this year. The olive harvest has grown by about 2.5 times. In addition, the number of olive plantations has increased. Of course, every year we are increasing the area of our own plantations,” said Svanidze.
Earlier, Svanidze said that the International Olive Council IOC plans to finance the development of olive culture in Georgia. According to him, within the framework of the organization's grant programs, it is planned to create an international laboratory in Georgia, which will issue certificates of global importance. And under this program, the IOC will send agronomists to Georgia.
“Georgia has a very good geographical position. And therefore, if olive groves are planted here and new olive processing facilities are built, Georgian products will be exported to Kazakhstan, Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Uzbekistan and China. And since we signed an agreement on the avoidance of double taxation, our products will be delivered to the listed countries, tax free,” he stressed.
For 11 years of its existence, Georgian Olive company planted about 1 million olive trees in the Kakheti region (Eastern Georgia) of the Signagi municipality, built an olive processing plant in the village of Sakobo, Signagi municipality.
