Iran seeks to maximize the development of relations between the five Caspian states, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Iran to Azerbaijan, Seyed Abbas Mousavi, told Trend.
“It is very important for Iran to establish communication (sea, road, and rail) between neighboring countries,” Mousavi said.
“Iran cooperates in this direction both on a bilateral and multilateral basis. At present, cargo transportation is carried out between the Iranian ports and the ports of Alat and Hovsan of Azerbaijan,” the ambassador said.
He further stressed that given the weakening of the economies of countries amid the coronavirus pandemic, increasing port activity is in the focus of Iran.
At the moment, Iran is considering plans to launch a transit route through Central Asia, within which Kazakhstan has already signed an ‘Agreement on cooperation in organizing container traffic’.
