Woodworking industry growing in Turkmenistan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 4

By Jeila Aliyeva - Trend:

The woodworking industry of Turkmenistan grew by 23.7 percent in 2020, Trend reports with reference to Business Turkmenistan information portal.

The industry has grown due to new processing enterprises, including private ones.

One of the most successful private woodworking enterprises in the country was opened in 2018, producing chipboard (chipboard), using cotton stalks that remain after the harvest of raw materials, and other agricultural waste.

The creation of such production facilities contributes to the development of the domestic industry for the production of furniture and building materials from eco-friendly, natural materials.

The forest fund of Turkmenistan occupies only 8.6 percent of the total area of the country, but not only wood, but also agricultural waste is used for the development of the woodworking industry.

Forests in Turkmenistan are a very important factor in the sustainability of natural ecosystems.

The forest fund of the country is represented by natural mountain (juniper), foothill (pistachio), tugai and desert (saxaul) forests. The largest areas are occupied by sandy-desert forests, followed by mountain, protective forest strips around farmland and riverine tugai forests.
