Kazakh national companies plan to move to IPO soon

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Mar.18

Trend:

A number of national companies of Kazakhstan may move to an initial public offering (IPO) at an accelerated rate if the situation with oil prices improves, Chairman of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms of Kazakhstan, Kairat Kelimbetov, said, Trend reports referring to the Kazakh media.

“Now we are discussing in the Government the possibility of accelerating privatization and entering the IPO of Kazakh national companies, which are part of the Samruk-Kazyna NWF. According to Samruk-Kazyna's plans, the privatization of stakes in such companies as KazMunayGas, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy KTZ JSC, Kazatomprom is planned for 2022-2023. The objective reasons for the postponement are the overall price environment, which was in the past years and also the impact of the pandemic on the global recession, on the development of the global economy,” the chairman said.

“But I think that if the situation with oil prices, which are predicted on average this year in optimistic scenarios (the average price is about $65 per barrel), maybe these processes will accelerate. But so far, in general, this is for 2022-2023,” said Kelimbetov, answering journalists' questions during a press conference in the CCS.

According to Kelimbetov, it is expected that in 2021 some private companies in Kazakhstan will continue to place their shares on the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC) stock exchange.
