Iran's petrochemical production capacity has increased by 13.5 million tons in the last Iranian year (started March 20, 2020) by the launch of 12 mega projects and the current production capacity is 83.5 million tons.
The petrochemical production capacity during the past 8 years had a 50 percent leap from 50 million tons in 2013 to 100 million tons in the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2021), Trend reports citing IRNA.
It is expected that the petrochemical industry would increase the country's income to $25 billion per year. Iran's outlook for 2025 is to become the top petrochemical power in the Middle East and increases capacity to 133 million tons by its third production leap.
Some of the mega projects that operated were desulfurization and olefin units in Ilam Petrochemical Company with €866 million investment to annually produce 750,000 tons of products with a value of $439 million that would create jobs for 1,700 individuals.
The Persian Gulf Bid Boland Gas Refinery was another mega project that started in 2013 and operated in 2020 set to collect gas flares with a $3.4 billion investment as part of the government plan to boost the second production leap. Bid Boland has a processing capacity of 56 million cubic meters of gas from crude oil production, annual production of 13.5 million tons of sour gas, and 2.25 million tons of sweet gas from LNG that expected to generate $700 million income for Iran.
The ethane recovery unit of Kangan Petro-Refining Company was one of the last petrochemical projects inaugurated in last Iranian year that would provide feed to petrochemical companies with an annual production capacity of 3.5 million tons of products and generating $1 billion income for the country.
The unit is expected to receive 21 million tons of feed from phase 12 of South Pars to produce 1.7 million tons of ethane, 1 million tons of propane and 500,000 tons of butane per year.
