Mining operations underway in Iran's Isfahan Province

A number exploration operations on mines are being carried out in three large areas of Iran in order to meet the needs of steel enterprises in the Isfahan Province (central Iran), an official of Geological Survey and Mineral Exploration of Iran (GSI) Reza Jadidi said, Trend reports citing the organization’s website.

Jadidi noted that the GSI is working on the exploration of iron ore in an area of 150,000 square kilometers in Isfahan Province. The positive results have been achieved in this direction over the past six months, and they will be announced by the end of the current Iranian year year (March 20, 2022).

He added that the mines that are yet to be discovered are estimated to be put into operation over the next 2-5 years.

The official emphasized that exploration of Iran's iron ore reserves is one of the main priorities of the organization for this year.

As reported, Iran's mining reserves are about 50 billion tons at present.

Iran extracted 410 million tons of mining materials in the preceding Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 through March 20, 2020). These materials were mainly iron ore, copper, steel, lead, zinc and gold.
