Georgian Marneuli Almond company eyes exports to Europe

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Apr. 5

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

The products of the Georgian company "Marneuli Almond" will be 100 percent exported to Europe, Trend reports via Georgian media.

Marneuli Almond grows 60,000 almond seedlings on a 125-hectare plot in Marneuli. The project is being implemented through private investment.

As the representative of the company Levan Diasamidze said, the payback period of the project is 6-7 years. The almonds grown here will be fully exported.

“Unfortunately, the consumption of almonds in Georgia is very low, so we focus on export. We will plant 125 hectares of almonds, we have already purchased 60,000 saplings from the Spanish company Vivero Veroni. We also agreed with them on a consultation,” Diasamidze explained.

After hazelnuts, almonds are the most demanded agricultural crop, the demand for which is growing every year. The first harvest of almonds was obtained in commercial orchards in Georgia last year.
