Iran's mobile phone imports increased by 69 percent in terms of value and 20 percent in terms of number in the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021), compared to the preceding Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 through March 19, 2020), Deputy Director of Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Mehrdad Jamal Arvanaghi said, Trend reports citing the IRICA.
Arvanaghi emphasized that Iran imported about 13.5 million mobile phones worth more than $2.43 billion over last Iranian year.
“While in the preceding Iranian year, Iran imported 11.2 million mobile phones worth $1.44 billion,” he added.
The deputy director said that the average price of a mobile phone imported to Iran was $180 during last Iranian. This is about $52 more than preceding Iranian year.
Arvanaghi noted that about 44 percent of mobile phones imported to Iran were accounted for the Samsung, 25 percent for Xiaomi, 21 percent for Apple percent, 8 percent for Huawei, 2 percent for Nokia and 2 percent for other brands.
According to him, the mobile phones were mainly imported from the UAE and China.
The customs official stressed that moreover, 652,000 mobile phones were brought to Iran by citizens last Iranian year. However, about 900,000 mobile phones had been brought to Iran by citizens preceding Iranian year.
