TEHRAN, Iran, June 8
Trend:
Iranian Minister of Oil Bijan Zanganeh said that collecting flared gas in Iran is complicated and expensive, Trend reports via IRNA.
The minister pointed to the reason for delays in implementation of flare gas - related projects. He made the remark during a public session of the Parliament. In particular, he pointed out that the capture of flared gas is 'costly'.
He went on to say that the Iranian Parliament has obliged the government to provide flared gases at a fair price to convert it into usable fuel.
“The Oil Ministry held an auction to set the price,” he said. “The price was set between 0.5 cents - 2 cents per cubic meter."
He added that the relative contracts were signed and flare gas capture plants were established.
The gas collection plant is aimed at preventing gas flaring, observing environmental considerations, creating value added from collecting the flared gases and providing sustainable feedstock to petrochemical companies.
Zanganeh further stated that in order to capture flare gases, gas collection plants called NGL, should be opened, and the collected gases should be sweetened.
“This requires huge amount of investment,” said Zanganeh, adding that the government allowed the private sector to establish NGLs.
Zanganeh added that projects have been planned to collect the flared gases in the east of Karun River and providing sustainable feedstock to petrochemical companies.
