Turkmenistan is interested in attracting investments and technologies of the US to the development of high-tech and innovative industries in the country, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The issue was touched upon during a videoconference between the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Vepa Hadjiev and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Central Asia, Press and Public Diplomacy Jonathan Henick.
The industry, energy, transport, as well as agriculture and water management were named priority areas of cooperation.
During the meeting, the parties confirmed their commitment to the further development of bilateral cooperation in the political, trade, economic and cultural and humanitarian fields. Thus, the effectiveness of multilateral cooperation formats, such as "Central Asia + the US" and "Turkmenistan-the US-Afghanistan", was emphasized.
The parties placed special emphasis on cooperation in the field of environmental protection and countering climate change. Thus, the diplomats spoke in favor of intensifying partnership in this direction, including on international platforms and within the framework of authoritative structures.
The Turkmen side intends to take an active part in the 26th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, scheduled for November 2021 in Glasgow.
The US is one of the important trade, economic, and foreign policy partners of Turkmenistan, with which cooperation is carried out in the field of regional security, combating serious threats and challenges, as well as in other areas.
In recent years, the US has taken a course towards rapprochement with Turkmenistan. Political consultations have become regular. Cooperation continues in such areas as the supply of agricultural machinery, modernization of the technical fleet of civil aviation in Turkmenistan, and import of electric power equipment.
