Iran’s exports via Astara border checkpoint up

The exports through the Astara border checkpoint in the Gilan Province (northern Iran) increased by 13 percent in terms of value and 10 percent in terms of volume during the first four months of the current Iranian year (from March 21 through July 22, 2021), compared to the same period last Iranian year, Director General of Astara Customs Office, Karim Rasouli told reporters, Trend reports citing IRNA.

According to Rasouli, 285,000 tons of goods worth about $155 million were exported through the Astara border checkpoint over the 4 months.

“About 81 percent of the goods were exported by road, 12 percent by railway and 7 percent by sea. These goods were exported by 562 wagons, 42 ships, and more than 10,000 trucks. The main exported goods were agricultural and plastic products,” he added.

The director-general noted that furthermore, 75,000 tons of goods worth about $185 million were imported through the Astara border checkpoint within the mentioned period.

Rasouili stressed that in four months, 69,200 tons of goods worth $315 million were transited through the Astara border checkpoint. Transit increased by 273 percent in terms of value and 259 percent in terms of volume, compared to the same period last Iranian year.

“A total of 800 wagons of goods were imported and 437 wagons of goods were transited by railway,” he said.

The director-general emphasized that the revenues of the Astara Customs Office amounted to about 800 billion rials (about $19 million) in 4 months.
