BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 18. More than 920,000 tons of wheat is expected to be harvested in the Golestan Province (north-eastern Iran) during current harvesting season in Iran (starting March 24, 2022), Director General of the Iranian Government Trading Corporation’s branch in Golestan Province Mohammad Reza Afshar said, Trend reports citing the corporation’s website.

According to Afshar, wheat has been planted on about 375,000 hectares of land in Golestan Province.

The director general added that more than 630,000 tons of wheat is expected to be purchased from farmers in the Golestan Province under a guarantee by Iranian Government Trading Corporation (GTC) this season. In this regard, 5 centers have been established in the province.

“The GTC started purchasing wheat from the farmers in the province as of May 17,” he said.

In general, 9 million tons of wheat are expected to be purchased in Iran in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2022, through March 20, 2023). Of this, about 5.5 million tons are expected to be purchased by the GTC.

The price of 1 kg of wheat was set up at 115,000 rials (about $2.74) for the current Iranian year.

A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice, and other products are purchased from farmers by GTC under a guarantee in Iran.
