BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 24. The price of 1 kg of fishery products in Iran will rise by about 60 percent for the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), compared to last Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), an official of Iran Fisheries Organization Morteza Afrasiabi said, Trend reports citing the organization’s website.

According to him, the price of 1 kg of fishery products will be at least 1 million-1.1 million rials (about $23.8-$26) this year.

“Last Iranian year, the price of 1 kg of fishery products was about 600,000-700,000 rials (about $14.2-$16.6),” the official said.

Afrasiabi also added that the reason for the rising in fish prices is an increase in the price of fish feed in the country by about 30-35 percent, as well as due to decrease in consumer purchasing power.

Also, the abolition of subsidies for a number of products in Iran played its role as well.

"Prior to the abolition of subsidies, Iran Fisheries Organization was able to negotiate with producers to set reasonable prices for the final product. However, with the abolition of subsidies, the organization will not be able to influence producers in setting prices,” he explained.
