Iran signs numerous contracts for investment in PGSEZ

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 31. Iran has signed 33 contracts worth $4.6 billion for investment into the Persian Gulf Mining and Metal Industries Special Economic Zone (PGSEZ), over the past two years (March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2022), said Hassan Khalaj Tehrani, managing director of the zone, Trend reports referring to the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO).

The director stressed that nine of these contracts worth $3.4 billion were signed in the preceding Iranian year (March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021), and 24 contracts worth $1.2 billion - in last Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022). As a result of the contracts, 13,000 people will be employed.

Khalaj Tehrani added that the IMIDRO provided funds worth about 35 trillion rials (about $ 833 million) into the zone for the creation and development of infrastructure in the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023). The funds will be used to supply water, electricity and gas to the industrial sector.

“In total, 2,500 hectares of land in the zone can be given to investors. So far, 30 percent of the mentioned areas have been handed over to investors,” he noted.
