The amount of wheat purchased from farmers in Iran has increased by 45 percent, since the beginning of current wheat harvesting season (started on March 24, 2022) in the country, compared to the same period last Iranian year, an official of Iranian Ministry of Agriculture Jihad Sohrab Sohrabi said, Trend reports citing IRIB.

“In total, about 6.59 million tons of wheat have purchased from farmers in Iran within the mentioned period, while in the same period last Iranian year, the figure stood at 4.52 million tons,” the official said.

Sohrabi added that about 50 trillion rials (about $1.2 billion) were paid to farmers for purchased wheat on August 2. Another 10 trillion rials (about $238 million) is planned to be paid to farmers on August 3.

Wheat is purchased from farmers in Iran in two forms - under basis of contracts and under a guarantee.
