TEHRAN, Iran, August 23. Iran's steel production has declined by 6 million tons during the last winter causing a $6 billion loss for the industry, said the executive deputy of Iran Steel Producers Association Vahid Yaghoubi, Trend reports citing Mehr News Agency.

He pointed out that the target plan for steel production in the last Iranian year (started March 21, 2021) was 34 million tons that have dropped to 27.9 million tons due to gas outages.

The increasing gas consumption during the winter in the last Iranian year has led to a 250 million cubic meters gas shortage in the country and gas outages caused bad consequences for the steel industries, Yaghoubi said.

The price of steel products in the domestic market has increased by 20 percent due to gas and power outages and a decline in production.

According to the official, steel producers are ready to invest in gas production and collecting gas flares to secure the output.
