BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 26. It's necessary to provide freedom of transit of goods for the development of export in Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) countries, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov said during the meeting of an expanded Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, Trend reports.
According to him, an important practical step in this issue may be the modernization of the infrastructure of the Eurasian transport corridors in the East-West and North-South directions.
Smailov noted that for further development it's necessary to focus on solving a number of key issues.
According to the Prime Minister, building a barrier-free environment is the basis of relations between EAUE countries, which was directly written in the agreement of its establishment. The leading role in this should be played by the commission, which is provided with all the necessary powers.
"In current conditions, it's essential to determine the mechanism for leveling the consequences of restrictions that countries force to implement unilaterally," he informed.
Smailov added that with the introduction of restrictions in mutual trade, conditions should be created to maintain a certain level of security of other states with goods from union's countries, as well as simplify supplies from third countries.
He also stressed that currently, the EAEU countries are facing a serious increase in prices, especially for food products. So prices in the EAEU have increased by 12.9 percent in six months.
"At the same time, EAEU countries see serious distortions in the exchange rates between national currencies of the countries, which are determined through cross-rates against the US currency. This has a tangible impact on trade and inflationary processes in union's countries," Smailov added.
In this regard, Prime Minister proposed to hold appropriate consultations of the Central Banks of the EAEU countries and make proposals for the next meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council.
