Iran eyes to raising citrus fruit exports to China and Russia

TEHRAN, Iran, August 29. Iran's Minister of Agriculture Jihad Javad Sadatinejad announced that Iran's citrus production has been gradually increasing, and the country is seeking to raise its export to China and Russia, Trend reports citing ILNA.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has made a lot of efforts to acquire a share of the Chinese market,” said the minister, adding that Iran has taken the initial steps to export honey and citrus fruits to China.

Sadatinejad also noted that Iran has solved the issues with exports of kiwi to India.

He went on to explain the consequences of eliminating allocation of subsidized foreign currency at the official rate (42,000 rials per dollar) for the export of pasta and biscuits.

The minister admitted that this decision leads to a short-term negative impact on the agricultural sector.

“Currently, pasta producers can import up to 2 million tons of wheat,” said Sadatinejad.
