Iran names details of handicraft exports from Hormozgan Province

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 6. In total, $2.31 million worth of handicraft products were exported from Iran’s Hormozgan Province in the south of the country, during the first 11 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022, through February 19, 2023), said Mohammad Hosseini, Director General of Hormozgan Province Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Department, Trend reports citing the department’s website.

Hosseini noted that the main exported handicrafts for the reporting period were rugs, leather jackets, pottery, mats, etc. The mentioned goods were exported to countries located around the Persian Gulf.

The director general added that handicraft products were exported through Shahid Rajaee and Bandar Lengeh ports of Hormozgan Province.

“In the coming years, a number of steps are planned to be taken by the Hormozgan Province Industry, Mine and Trade Organization in order to increase the production and export of handicrafts in the province,” he said.

According to him, more than 80,000 people work in the handicraft sector in Hormozgan Province, and about 98 percent of them are women.

In general, Iran exported over 111 million tons of non-oil products worth $48.8 billion within the first 11 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022, through February 19, 2023). This is an increase of 12.2 percent in value, while a decrease of 1 percent in volume compared to the same period last Iranian year.
