BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 6. As many as 920,000 tons of coal were produced from the mines of Tabas County of Iran’s South Khorasan Province in the north-east of the country, during the first four months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through July 22, 2023), said Mahmoud Zarenia, director of industry, mine and trade department of Tabas County, Trend reports.
According to Zarenia, the mentioned volume of coal was produced from 33 mines of the county.
The director added that at present, 8,000 people work in coal mines of Tabas County.
He also noted that circa 76 percent of the country's coal reserves are located in Tabas County.
Reportedly, Iran's coal reserves are to be about 14 billion tons, but so far only about 1.2 billion tons have been determined. Iran has the capacity to produce 3.3 million tons of raw coal and 1.9 million tons of coal concentrate per year.
