BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 17. The volume of red meat produced in Iran dropped by 30.5 percent in the 8th month of the last Iranian year (October 23 through November 21, 2023), compared with the same month last Iranian year, Trend reports.
Data from Statistical Center of Iran (SCI) shows that 37,147 tons of red meat were produced in Iran during the 8th month, while in the same month the previous year, the figure stood at 53,433 tons.
Within the 8th month, 19,423 tons of beef and veal were produced within the country, showing a 23 percent decrease compared to 25,236 tons in the same month last year.
Also, 13,803 tons of lamb and mutton were produced in Iran for the eighth month. This is a decrease of 41.3 percent compared to 23,527 tons in the same time period last year.
Moreover, 2,888 tons of goat meat were produced countrywide for the reporting month, representing a 22.6-percent decline from 3,732 tons in the same month last year.
Meanwhile, Iran’s other red meat production (buffalo and camel) stood at 1,033 tons in the 8th month, which is an increase of 61.9 percent compared to 638 tons in the same month the previous year.
According to the statistics of the Ministry of Agriculture of Jihad Iran, the country produces an average of 1.2 million tons of red meat per year.
Currently, the price of 1 kg of mutton is around 2.3–14.3 million rials (about $56.6–$340), and 1 kg of beef and veal meat is around 2.78–9 million rials (about $66–$214).
