BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 6. Iran saw a 14 percent rise in non-oil exports through its border terminals in the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023 through January 20, 2024), said Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran and Head of Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization (RMTO) Dariush Amani, Trend reports.
The deputy minister noted that around 8.94 million tons of non-oil products left Iran through its border terminals in that period, carried by 390,292 trucks.
He also said that 11.4 million tons of goods transited through Iran’s roads in 10 months, a 46 percent increase from the same period last year. These goods were transported by 506,803 trucks from Iran and other countries.
Amani expected more cargo transit through roads in the last 2 months of the year, as Iran is pursuing political and economic cooperation with regional and neighboring countries.
The official stressed that Iran’s Road and Urban Development Minister Mehrdad Bazrpash regularly holds meetings with officials of neighboring countries for this purpose.
Currently, there are 2,793 km of controlled-access highways, 45,170 km of highways, and freeways in operation in Iran.
