Rep of FAO on Azerbaijan appointed

Representative of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization ( FAO) on Azerbaijan was appointed. On 30 January the FAO delegation led by the newly-appointed representative, Abdelatif Tabet, met with the Agriculture Minister, Ismat Abbasov and presented credentials, the Ministry told Trend.

Attending the event were representatives of the Turkish Organization for International Cooperation and Development under the Turkish Cabinet of Ministers and the Asian Development Bank .

The visit to Baku will last 2 weeks, the Ministry noted. Besides, during the visit the sides will work on development of national program on food safety within the program 'Southern Cooperation.

FAO is the first specialized establishment of the UN, founded on 16 October 1945. It has 150 members. The goal of the organization is to render technical aid in agriculture, produce agricultural products, as well as products of timber and fish-processing industry. The headquarters of FAO locates in Rome. Azerbaijan is a member of FAO from October 1995.
