The seventh session of Azeri-Ukrainian intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation is held September 1 in Baku. Trend reports with reference to the Cabinet of Ministers, the governmental delegation headed by vice-premier for fuel and energy complex of Ukraine Andrey Kluyev is arriving August 31 in Baku. Kluyv is the commission co-chairman from Ukraine.
The Azeri co-chairman of the commission is first vice-premier Yagub Eyyubov. By his decision the process of the session arrangement was accelerated in view of the forthcoming visit of Ukrainian president Victor Yutshchenko to Baku.
The commission will be examining the documents to be signed during the visit. These are five intergovernmental agreements regarding cooperation in environment protection, protection of rare plants, training of diplomatic personnel, collaboration between SOCAR and Naftogaz of Ukraine and political declaration.
The main issues of the session are: development of trade and economic cooperation, prospects of Azeri oil delivery using Odessa-Brodi pipeline, repayment of debts and so on. The issue of mutual claims consists of resolving the matter of debts in amount of $5.2mln Ukraine owes Azerbaijan for diesel fuel it purchased in 1999-2000.
It will be impossible to approve the mechanisms of the debt restructuring within the limits of commission as in this case Ukraine should account for the debts of the enterprises not existing today and amounts on emptied tanks with black oil dispatched from Azerbaijan. Azerbaijans debt to Ukraine formed as a result of turbines and other equipment purchasing.
