(autoinsidernews) - With new emissions regulations, many exciting diesel vehicles either won't be available in the States or won't be available in all 50 states (VW Touareg and Mercedes E320 BLUETEC). that require this fuel won't be coming here. Unfortunately for Volkswagen, the Touareg isn't the only one, as VW is withdrawing TDI versions of the Jetta, Rabbit or the Beetle from the U.S. market, reports Trend.

To get around this, Volkswagen is developing a new 2008 TDI Jetta powered by a new 2.0L diesel engine, which will meet the new regulations in all 50 states. The clean Jetta works without urea injection of the exhaust and instead treats the exhaust with a revised catalytic converter and particulate filters. Final power figures are said to be 140-hp and 240 lb.-ft. of torque.

The 2008 Jetta TDI appeared to be an uplevel version with a 6-speed manual, navigation, leatherette seats, GTI-style projector headlamps, and upgraded wheels. Expect to see more TDI cars returning to the States.
