The Government of Azerbaijan has publicized its economic development plans for the country in the forthcoming years. On 6 November the Minister for Economic Development, Heydar Babayev, stated that that the first course of action is the development of the infrastructure, because without this, it is impossible to improve the investment business climate in the country.
The second action plan is the development of human resources. There have been many problems in this sector over the past 10 years. He particularly noted the problems existing in the medical and jurisprudence sector. Highly qualified specialists are in demand within the oil industry. The absence of highly qualified medical specialists is the main reason for the influx of people from regions to the capital.
The third plan is the State support on the development of the non-oil sector. The Government is satisfied with the growth pace of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which is mainly comprised of the oil sector, he stated. Over the next 15-20 years it is necessary to achieve the progress and ensure a high growth pace of the non-oil sector.
