Azerbaijani Transport Ministry Invites Korean Companies to Cooperation

The Azerbaijan Transport Ministry invited several Korean companies to visit Baku on 15 January to discuss the perspectives of cooperation in the transport sector.

Ziya Mammadov, the Azerbaijani Transport Minister, said on 26 December that talks will focus on several issues. It is planned to build the city automobile transport with the assistance of the Korean companies.

During stay in Seoul we got familiar with the center on transport management center, which drew our attention. We intend to hold talks to build the similar system in Azerbaijan and with this respect I invited the heads of companies to Baku, the Minister said.

The talks will also concern the purchase of buses with medium and big number of seats.

Indeed, the buses should be purchased by private sector units, but the government also intends to purchase them to give on leasing to private transport companies. In the initial stage it is planned to purchase 200 buses, the Minister said.

The contract can be concluded with several companies, because several companies such as Daewoo, Hundai, KIA Korea are specialized in this field, though active work is done with Daewoo.

The work will be carried out within the framework of the Azerbaijani President decree on Improvement of the Transport System of Baku in 2006-2007. The purchase of new buses will enable to resolve the problems in the city transport infrastructure, as well as improvement of services to passengers. 3,000 big buses are needed to renew the park.
