Azersu Hopes to Complete   Baku Water Meters Installation in 2008

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend S.Babayeva / The Head of Azersu JSC, Nizameddin Rzayev, said on 20 March that presently the JSC possesses more than 893,000 commerical of which 877,000 are private subscribers.

According to him, from the beginning of 2007, 196,150 water meters were installed (21.9 %) and 157,975 meters in Baku, with 106,119 for population. Additionally 100,000 water meters are planned to be installed in 2007.

"Possibly after amendments to the State budget, additional funds will be allocated for this purpose and the figure will be increased up to 150,000-200,000," Rzayev said. Azersu has 441,000 subscribers in Baku from which 430,000 are private subscribers. Presently JSC installs water meters in three districts of Baku, Binagady, Narimanov and Nasimy. In high-rise buildings, the meters are installed at the expense of funds allocated from the State budget. In private houses, the meters should be installed at the expense of the subscribers. The water supply will be terminated for those who do not fulfill this requirement. "Possibly in 2008 we will be able to complete installation of the meters in Baku," Rzayev said.
