Azerbaijan Began Gas Export to Iran

Azerbaijan, Baku, 14 February /corr. Trend S.Aliyev / In Feb, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) began exporting its own natural gas to Iran, a source in Azerbaijan's Azergaz reported on 14 February.

According to the representative of Azerigaz, 1mln cu.m of gas is supplied to Iran per day- $300 for per thousand cu.m. The contract was signed to supply 30mln cu.m of the gas to Iran.

At present, Azerbaijan and Iran are connected to each other by not operating Gazi-Mahammad-Astara-Bind-Biand gas pipeline, with a total length of 1474.5km (296.5km in Azerbaijan). Its carrying capacity makes up 10bln cu m a year. This route is a branch of Gazakh-Astara-Iran pipeline, which was put into the exploitation in 1971. Three compressor stations have been constructed along with the pipeline - in Gazi-Mahammad, Agdash and Gazakh. The gas-transporting system has been envisaged for the pressure of 55 atmospheres. The diameter of the pipeline is 1200mm.
